The list of electronic patient records suppliers is expected to give buyers in the NHS more confidence for their digitisation efforts.

It will feature on the new electronic patient records (EPR) section on the Health Systems Support Framework developed by NHS England and NHSX, and will help organisations and integrated care systems get value for their money for their purchases of new digital services, software and infrastructure.

NHS England said that the eight selected firms have been evaluated and are guaranteed to provide the most robust systems, while meeting a broad range of key criteria such as the ability to integrate with other IT systems.

The selected suppliers of electronic patient records are Allscripts, Cerner, DXC, IMS Maxims, Nervecentre, Meditech, System C, and TPP.

The bidders were assessed by experts from NHS England and Improvement, NHSX, NHS Digital, local care provider organisations, Department of Health and Social Care, national bodies, and regional teams.

They were tested against various functional requirements within existing deployed solutions. Suppliers were allowed to offer the functionality within a sole solution or across various integrated solutions within a supply chain partnership during their evaluation.

All the suppliers were asked to demonstrate how they will provide enterprise-wide solutions for electronic patient records, and how they could offer thinner deployments that give a basis for modular solutions, among other functional requirements.

NHSX CEO Matthew Gould said: “Helping clinicians access and share data effectively is crucial for patient safety. Today’s announcement is about giving care providers the tools they need to achieve this, and a key part of our mission to ensure the NHS benefits from the very best digital services.”

The Health Systems Support Framework was developed to offer services that support the delivery of integrated care, including population health management. The new EPR section will give access to supplier systems that are able to comply with the Global Digital Exemplars (GDE) standards, which means trusts and other NHS entities can quickly digitise than before.
